- Accident Halts Kil-Kare Action
Xenia, OH (5/16) - At last the weather man finally co-operated and
Kil-Kare Speedway was able to get their third NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series events in on a rather cool evening with a large
field of cars on hand. However the nights events were cut short by a
serious KOIL Legends accident in their feature when driver Toby
Alfrey rolled over the outside wall and lodged between the wheel
fence and wall. Due to time constraints the late model and modified
features were postponed for two weeks.
It was a side by side duel for the positions in the first late model
heat as seasoned veterans and former track champs Sam Heckman and
Joe Hill battled side by side for the lead with Heckman getting the
honor of the win with Hill right beside him in second and third was
Ricky Bates. Good luck finally came Virgil Powell's way as he
claimed the second heat with Kil-Kare first timer Scott McMillen
placing a close second with Jeff Marsh third.
Caleb Rescher claimed his second modified heat win as he jumped out
front at the drop of the green to lead all the way. Jerry Stapleton
wasn't too far behind to claim second with third going to Bill Burba.
Neil McClelland was a first time winner in the second heat as he was
home first. Ray Muncy dogged McClelland but had to settle for second
with Brad Yelton a very close third.
It was also a great night for the sport stocks with the running of
the Rich Miller Memorial in honor of former driver Rich Miller who
passed as a result of cancer last December. Hoe Hensel took the lead
at the drop of the green but it was Shawn Stansell driving the Mark
Heath owned car taking comand and never looked back. Mike South Jr.
moved into second but couldn't catch Stansell. Justin Miller was
holding down third as fast timer Tom Williams slipped by Miller but
slid off the track giving third back to Miller. While Stansell
enjoyed the win and South was second with Miller third, Williams
came back up to claim fourth with Travis Digges fifth.
The first heat of KOIL Bandoleros saw Kyle Donahue and Ty Rose take
the two front spots only to tangle with Donahue sent to the tail and
Rose took the win over Kyle Weatherman and Casey Moore. It was a
great finish in the second heat as Tyler Poe lost the win by a
whisker over Charlie Stray as Stray claimed his first win at
Kil-Kare. With Poe second Angela Donahue was third.
It was a tough feature for the young drivers as the caution flew
numerous times due to spins, but when the green was out it was a
furious battle as they jockeyed around for positions. At starter
Mike Stapletons checker flag it was Casey Moore claiming his second
feature with Clayton Weatherman second followed by Kyle Donahue,
Kevin Donahue, and Charlie Stray.
The first heat of the KOIL Legends was a heartbreaker for Bryan
Nuckles as with two laps to go in the first heat Adam Roberts
slipped by to take the win with Knuckles second and Sloan Henderson
third. Just like the first heat it was a Nuckles finishing second in
the second heat as Toby Alfrey displaced Tyler Nuckles on the second
lap to take the lead and win. With Tyler second many time winner
Danny Jackson was third.
A two car tangle just after the start of the feature brought the
caution fag out resulting in a complete restart with Sloan Henderson
and Tyler Nuckles in the front row. On the green only one lap was
recorded when Tommy Klein tagged the turn four wall resultin in a
lost wheel. With Tyler Nuckles in the lead on the fourth restart the
red flag appeared when on lap seven Toby Alfrey's car went airborn
out of turn two and rolled violently over the wall. The event was
called complete with Tyler Nuckles declared the winner and his
cousin Bryan second with Adam Roberts third.
The first heat of Oakley Blacktop Compacts was a three car battle
for the front spots between Chris Boggs, Bo Hoelscher and Shane
Sparkman. When the checker waved it was Sparkman claiming his first
compact heat win with Hoelscher second and Boggs third. Second heat
action got off to a bad start for Chuck Adkins as he smacked the
wall hard, knocking him out of competition. When action got back
underway Tim Dilg wasted little time to fly by his opponents to take
the lead and win over Ron Sagers and Mike Robertson.
Tim Dilg looked like he might make it a clean sweep in the feature
as he jumped out front ad led the first fifteen laps as the faster
cars that had started on the tail-end in the complete inversion were
making their way toward the front. Dilg saw his hopes of a win fade
as Bo Hoelscher in the Hoelscher Racing special stole the lead to
take the win, In the meantime Chris Boggs and fast timer Tim Haerr
were on the move advancing toward the front, With one lap to go
Roger Sloan Jr. barrel rolled off the backstretch bringing out the
yellow followed by the checker. Dilg was second with Boggs third,
Haerr fourth and Arron Harshbarger winner of the first two features
earlier this year was fifth.
